Education

  • 1995 PhD in Materials Engineering and Metallurgy, University of Rome "La Sapienza"
  • 1990 Graduated in Nuclear Engineering, University of Rome "La Sapienza"


Research
Interests

 
At present, his interests lie in structured and nanostructured coatings, especially for wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature oxidation. Moreover, he is nowadays coordinator of many public research projects (National and International) involving nanotechnologies, and holder of contracts and conventions between the department and private companies.
 
Author of more than 150 papers published in international and national journals and refereed conference proceedings and is peer reviewer on several scientific journals concerning Surface Engineering like:"Surface & Coatings Technology", "Vacuum", "Journal of Materials Science", "Thin Solid Films", "Journal of Thermal Spray Technology", "Journal of Materials Research".

Guest Appointments

Invited professor for several years at the University of Science and Technology of Lille in order to give some lectures on topics related to the advanced characterization and mechanical modeling of thin films for wear resistance applications.
Invited to participate to the activities of the “damaging and surfaces group” belonging to the Laboratory of Mechanics which is an Unity 8107 of CNRS (National Scientific Research Center).


Public Professional Activities

  • Professor  at University of Rome "Roma Tre" lecturing:  “Fundamentals of Materials Science and Technology” (since 2008), “Advanced Techniques for the Biomaterials Characterization“(since 2008), “Materials Technologies“ (since 2008), “Materials for Mechanical Engineering “(since 2002), “Materials Corrosion and Protection” (since 2004) and temporary teacher both of the second course of "Materials Science" (since 1999) and of the course of “Metallurgy” (since 2000).
  • Research engineer at the Engineering Department (Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering before) University of Rome "Roma Tre"(since 1995)
  • Coordinator of the advisory board the Roma TRE Electron Microscopy Laboratory (LIME) and in charge of the research activities of the materials science group at LIME, mainly devoted to advanced characterization of coatings and interfaces (www.lime.uniroma3.it).
  • Coordinator of the section of Mechanical engineering of the University "Roma Tre" Doctorate School in Engineering
  • Member of the Scientific Board of the "Molecular Design" department of the National Research Council (CNR, www.dpm.cnr.it)
  • Member of the advisory board of the Italian Interuniversity Consortium on Materials Science and Technology (INSTM  www.instm.it)
  • Italian Government representative in the "Mirror Group" for the Steel Technology Platform-ESTEP of the European Commission.
  • Member of the advisory board and the Scientific Comitee of the Consortium Matris (a Consortium between three roman univesities and CSM - Centre for Materials Development for the research activities in aerospace industry specialy regarding development and technology of production and applications of advanced materials).
